Ekla Chalo re

Watched "Bose- The forgotten Hero" on Saturday. Gem of a movie and probably the best of Shyam Benegal. Subhash Chandra Bose has always been an inspiring character in the history for the youth.
This post however is not about the movie, its about the lead song 'Tanha Rahee' which is based on the poem 'Ekla Chalo Re' by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. I had pasted the English translation of this poem on my blog earlier.
http://the-complete-man.blogspot.com/2004/12/tsunami-times_30.html

However, yesterday I found the original bengali text of the poem and found that the meaning in the above translation was not exact. So I have endeavourer (with the help of Shubham) to re-translate it into English and Hindi by myself. Here is the output of my work:

Bengali
Jodi Tor Dak Soone Keu Na Asse
Tobe Ekla Chalo re
Ekla Chalo Ekla Chalo Ekla Chalore

Jodi Keu Katha Na Kai Ore Ore O Abhaga
Jodi Sabai Thake Mukh Firae Sabai Kare Bhay
Tabe Paran Khule
O Tui Mukh Fute Tor Maner Katha Ekla Balo re

Jodi Sabai Fire Jai Ore Ore O Abhaga
Jodi Gahan Pathe Jabar Kale Keu Feere Na Chay
Tobe Pather Kanta
O Tui Rakta Makha Charan Tale Ekla Dalo re

Jodi Alo Na Dhare Ore Ore O Abhaga
Jodi Jharr Badale Andhar Rate Duar Deay Ghare
Tobe Bajranale
Apaan Buker Panjar Jaliey Nieye Ekla Jalo re

English transalation by me

If no one speaks to you, oh thou of evil luck
If everyone turns his backs to you and is afraid
Then wholheartedly, you alone speak up what is in your mind

If everyone returns back, oh thou of evil luck
If no one accompanies you into the deep woods
then on the thorns of the road
You alone walk with your blood soaked feet

When fire cannot be alighted, oh thou of evil luck
If stormy winds are blowing, the sky is overcast
In a dark night when the light of your destination is far
Then lighting the fire in your rib cage, you walk alone

this song "ekla chalo re" has inspired many a great person over the years. mahatma gandhi also called this his favorite song. Perhaps he liked this song so much that he decided to adopt "ekla chalo re" in all his actions, and not listen to the opinions of any other person. Perhaps thats why he repeatedly made the congress and later the indian govt. change their decisions according to his wishes.

perhaps it is time a modified version of this song is released.. "walk alone... but dont drag others with you.."
